Tea: An Introduction

Tea has been around for centuries, and it's still the beverage of choice for many people today. Tea is the second most drank beverage in the world, with water taking first place.

It comes in a variety of different flavors, colors, and styles that allow you to choose what you want to drink based on your mood or taste preference.

Whether black tea is your favorite with its strong flavor, green tea with its light taste, herbal teas for the health benefits, or fun fruity teas, there are plenty of options out there! *Please Note: This article will be updated regularly to add more information and more relevant links to our products as we grow. Thank you for joining out journey!

The Tea Plant: Camellia sinensis

Camellia sinensis is the plant from which all tea comes from. It's a flowering species of evergreen. Some common names are: tea plant, tea shrub, or tee tree - not the same as the Melaleuca tree.

There are four verities of Camellia sinensis that are recognized:
  • Chinese small leaf tea

  • Chinese Western Yunnan Assam large leaf tea

  • Indian Assam large leaf tea

  • Chinese Southern Yunnan Assam large leaf tea

The leaves of this small shrub are dried and used to make black, green, oolong, and white teas. The leaves are used at different stages to produce several types of tea with varying qualities.

Leaves are hand picked every one to two weeks depending on the type of tea being processed.

Tea is good.

There are several types of teas, such as:
  • Black tea

  • Green tea

  • Oolong tea

  • White tea

  • Pu-erh

In this post we'll talk about each of the teas - so make a cuppa and come join us on our tea journey! I know, chai, herbal, and fruity are not on that list. These teas are flavored and I have decided to make a whole other post about them, I will add the link to this post once it's ready.

What are your favorite teas:

My favorite tea is Earl Grey Moonlight because it’s creamy profile with that splash of Bergamot Oil; however, whichever type of tea you decide to drink, remember there is a long a history of how that beverage ended up in your cup. :)
